Small Middle School is an AISD "Green-Tech" campus with innovative course offerings in both environmental studies and technology. This movement represents the fabric of our merging high-tech and environmentally sensitive community.
With an outdoor classroom, a greenhouse, a chicken coop, composting, recycling, water-harvesting, a Japanese garden (including a student-made pond), a state-of-the art technology (CTE) wing, robotics, and the Project Lead the Way (Gateway to Technology) Pre-Engineering curriculum, Small Middle School is leading the way in “Green-Tech” elective course offerings.
Small Middle School is a National “Green Ribbon” school, and the first school in Texas to earn the Eco-Schools USA Green Flag Award from the National Wildlife Federation. Small students have planted over 300 native plant species, and established a Grove of Champions near the school track. The community, students, parents, teachers, and administration fully support the environmental and technology initiative. We were recently awarded the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Outdoor Habitat grant to propagate milkweed and increase the habitat for the Monarch butterfly.
