Cougar News – Thanksgiving Week

What's happening at Small Middle School

Week of 11/25/19 – 12/06/19

We will be having our 4th annual Zombie Fun Run on December 19th, the day before Winter Break. It might be a tad cooler, but the idea of Zombies wearing Santa hats is too cool of an image not to try it. We hate that we had to postpone due to weather (whether or not it will rain), but promise to make it up to our kids who have been working so hard to help raise money for our school.

Thanksgiving is all about family and friends and expressing gratitude. We are thankful for you and your student and the trust you have placed in our program. We know the next 9 days with your student will be filled with joy, as they have been delivering the same to us since August. We’ve got a special group of kids here who are kind, thoughtful, and eager to grow and learn. We know this is not the norm at this level, so we are forever thankful to you and yours for helping craft these caring kids.

We’ll see y’all back here on campus on December 2nd. Until then, be safe and love the heck out of one another

Wow Cougar Parents!
Boy did you show your love for our teachers and staff! This is the first year, the PTA did not have to run out and buy extra pies so everyone could have one. We had so many, we gave 2 to each bus driver. We made sure the Custodians and Cafeteria workers and crossing guard got some too. AND some of our teachers got to take 2 home!!!! They were so excited and so thankful for the show of love and the sweet treats to start off their fall break!
Thank you all so much!

It is not too late to get involved. Now that  we  have some extra time, we need your to help us get to our goal!

We will be accepting donations until December 18th and prizes will still be awarded when we get back from break.

Watch our video below to learn how to set up an account.
We will also accept donations at the school when we get back.

As of Friday afternoon, we were at $22,925.50

UT Event

UT is reaching out to us on behalf of the Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin. Their department hosts a series of events entitled UT Brainstorms: A Conversation on the Brain. The purpose of these events is to connect with the Austin community, and ultimately with the Texas community, to inform and educate about neuroscience research and the influences it has on our daily lives.

The topic for our upcoming event is “The Remembering Brain: A Conversation About How Memory Contributes to Children and Adults’ Ability to Navigate the World, Acquire New Knowledge, and Imagine Their Future.” We would greatly appreciate it if you could share this information! I have attached the event flyer, but please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Our event will be held Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 7:00pm, at the LBJ Auditorium on the UT Austin campus.

For more information and to RSVP, please visit: (or Email: / Phone: (512) 232-7594). Attendance is free, and complimentary parking is available on-site at LBJ on a first-come, first-served basis.

The speakers, Drs. Christine Coughlin, Hannah Roome, and Nicole Varga are all members of the Preston lab, where they use a combination of behavioral and brain imaging techniques to explore how we form new memories, how we remember past experiences, and how our memory for the past influences what we learn in the present.
